Originall we had two days set aside to visit Gail’s cousin in the Denver area. When Covid put an end to that we added a stop at Lake Pueblo and moved other things up a day. Also on the original plan was to stop at Liberal, Kansas as opposed to Garden City but we stopped early for an electrical problem.
It was very windy and cool here at Pueblo Lake State Park
Because of the col weather we opted to shift our campsite at John Martin Reservoir State Park from the lake side where there were no hookups, to the below the dam side where there were hook ups. As you can see, this was a very empty campground
In west Kansas we stopped for lunch at a rest area where we could see the ruts still in the ground from the Santa Fe Trail. We also stopped to see the Syracuse sand dune, just outside of Syracuse, KS. It doesn’t look like a dune but it is sand that has been covered in grass. These dunes run for several miles alongside the Arkansas River. One area is set aside as a park for off road vehicles and in it you can clearly see the sand.
