San Gimignano

The Tuscan countryside near San Gimignano.

We spent the morning in San Gimignano admiring the charm of the old walled city, shopping, and eating, those being the main things to do here.  There are a couple of small museums in town but we seemed to be museumed out this year.  The only one we visited was Villa Balbianello outside of Bellagio.

We spent the early afternoon driving down to Sassetta, in southwestern Tuscany, via some scenic, back country roads.  Drove through a very interesting, huge, geothermal electricity generating area.  They have huge, insulated pipes running all over the countryside bringing heat (very hot water I suppose) to central locations where they convert the energy to electricity.  Most interesting.
