After five very nice days in Inuvik, we started the
long journey home, driving south on the Dempster (covered on page
4).
Our first stop in the Yukon Territory was at Moose Creek Territorial campground
which was in a Aspen forest. A nice change of pace from the usual
evergreens. From there it was back to Whitehorse along the Klondike
Highway. When we got to Big Fox Lake we discovered near perfect conditions
for reflections in the lake pictures. Naturally, we stopped and shot more
than one picture, two of which are shown here. If we can ever decide which
one of the eight or ten pictures is the "best" we will have an
enlargement made to hang in the living room.
From Whitehorse we drove south on the Alaska Highway to
it's start point at Dawson Creek and then down through the Canadian Rockies to
Calgary. Our first stop on this leg was at Muncho Lake (yellow dot 23 on
the map). We went canoeing there that afternoon
and then we had a great sunset. We shot about two rolls of film during the
sunset (did I ever tell you how long sunsets are in the way north?). Here
are three of our favorites. One of these will probably end up on the
wall too.
The next morning I was able to get a picture which
almost captured the color of the water.
We traveled through the Rockies in two of Canada's
National Parks, Jasper and Banff. We stayed the night in Jasper NP at
Honeymoon Lake, shown here late in the evening.
Both days we were in the parks were very cloudy and we had occasional rain
showers which reduced the photo ops considerably which was a shame as the parks
are both full of beautiful scenery. I did get this picture in Banff NP
though.
At the south end of Banff NP is Lake Louise, one of the most photographed spots
in the world, so I have read. The weather wasn't exactly conducive to
getting a great photo however, this picture will probably remind you of a great
shot of the same lake that you have seen on a calendar at some time.
