Italy
The reason for the return to Monte di Procida was the highlight of the trip. The chance to attend the wedding of Gennaro's oldest daughter, Maria to Salvatore.
The wedding was in a small church just up the street from their home.
From the left, Grandmother on the father's side, Grandfather on the mother's
side, and a relative whose exact connection has escaped me.
The wedding ran from 11 to 12 and then we went to reception
arriving about 1. Initially, we were outside waiting for the bride and
groom to finish their post wedding photos. They finally did and arrived at
the reception by boat.
After they arrived we had a glass of sparkling wine, and ate
what was listed as an American Buffet. As shown here,
the buffet consisted of shell fish, ham, cheese, bread with different toppings,
melons, and several things I've forgotten.
After this buffet, we moved inside and sat down to some serious
eating. Fourteen courses followed during the next eight hours. Here is
the menu.
When we first read the menu we thought we would get one item from each
section. Wrong! There is only one "or" on the page.
There was a two hour break in eating between 5 and 7 (between the sorbeto and
the steak as I remember it).
The boys assembled here are with a sword fish which showed up again in smaller portions.
In addition to eating and drinking, there was a lot of dancing,
starting with the bride and groom,
, the bride and her father
,
grandmother and cousin
,
a conga line through the dinning room
,
some high kicking line dancing,
,
and a dance where the bride was spun around by her skirts
as well as regular dancing with music for all ages.
Finally, around 11, we moved back outside to cut the wedding
cake,
have a final glass of bubbly, and watch fireworks
